About

Hi, my name is John Weaver. I am a Guitar player/teacher, composer/arranger. I have been playing Guitar since 1966 and have been teaching Guitar since about 1970 when I started teaching a guitar class in my high school. I have played in bands that played many different styles. Everything from all original Rock to Jazz Fusion to Country. I studied Music Composition and Arranging in college and was a Minister of Music at a church in the Portland, OR area for about 18 years. In 2010 we moved to a small town in Idaho where I worked as a Machinist and taught Guitar. I currently teach guitar and play in a local Community Band and the Worship Band at our church.

I am trying to develop this site to share some of the things I have learned over the many years of playing and teaching, and to do so in the same manner that I have used and found extremely successful in the many years of teaching. Since I have been teaching Guitar for almost as long as I have been playing, I have learned some very important things that you wouldn’t know or think about if you played an instrument for many, many years and became very advance before you start teaching. My teaching strategies focus on giving the student information that allows them to develop their playing with good form and technique and to learn the Music Fundamentals and the way all those things layout on the Guitar. Learning a song is fine for using as a vehicle to use what you know but is not a very effective learning strategy. Therefore my focus has always been to make sure the student knows what there are doing and how to play any scale, chord or arpeggio and how the Guitar function as an instrument.

So thanks for visiting my site and thanks for being patient as I figure out how to construct and organized things.
